Definition of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
We refuse to applicate pesticides when environment conditions persists which would allow repeat procedures like say a lawn is mostly weeds and not grass to thicken, a tree needing an injection that is pruned incorrectly, a lawn, tree or landscape that is overly wet even when the ground maybe dry when we arrive at the time and that's why we offer drainage. Improper irrigation will lead to an uneven drying which can cause an increase in disease and other pests so we refuse to farm areas like this and advise the correction. Soil is the most important of all and if the PH is off or has bark etc... we refuse to apply pesticides of any kind.
How Pest Problems Are Identified
Of course, knowing the biology behind each weed and how it grows is pertinent in controlling the weed. IE: African Vilets have a waxy coating on the surface and turn upside down in the fall leaving the weed more susceptible to absorb weed control and die so we inform the client to wait. Clover and violets are indicator weeds that a lawn is being mowed too short so we inform the client and don't apply pesticides until the cultural practice is corrected.
Tools, Practices, and Materials Used/Sold
Practices Used to Prevent or Control Pests
Culturally we work with a mole trapping service and don't engage into chemical mole control. We, absolutely must have a even well draining soil and the host plant maintained correctly once we are gone. If the client does not correct those problems we then let the customer go with proper educating, expert diagnosis and documentation.
Biological Controls Used?
We use biological Nitrogen Inhibitors, Organic Fertilizers and Microbial enhancers to increase turf thickness and cell wall strength in all plants like trees and shrubs that allow the host to become healthy and produce its natural toxins to repell the pest We also use Organic Acetic Acid to replace Glyphosate
Borates Used?
No, we do not believe in using borates.
Synthetic Chemicals Used?
We do use chemical pesticides when not requested and only when the threshold is unacceptable. In that case we use Non 24d blends and focus on products that have a high LD50 and not known to cause adverse health effects. We also abide by staying 20 ft from any water source regardless of what the label allows.
Top Ten Pesticides Used/Sold/Recommended
We use little to no disease controls due to our feeding products. Our plants are so resilient that we can apply pesticides at lowest allowed rate per label. Fiesta,Triclopyr, BT, MilkySpore, Imidacloprid. Pre m consists of either Corn Gluten or Prodiamine. Prodiamine although being a chemical is very high on ld50 with low health concerns and fixates to the soil particle better than any synthetic weed control and can be put down in one full dose. We always notify our clients of what is natural, Organic and synthetic and always emphasize caution with anything we do application wise, even with Organics.
How Much Pesticide Used Per Year, and How Applied?
We use less than 5 gallons of post m weed control per 1 million square feet per year and 5 pounds of pre m per 1 million sq. Ft. All year and less than 2 gallons of insecticide per acre of trees per year
Uses Physical or Mechanical Controls?
Definitely cultural, mechanical and biological
