Definition of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

Using a variety of methods to approach pest control and pest management instead of relying on soley chemical control methods. Includes cultural, biological, mechanical control methods and focuses on education and informed decision making by each client and each indivual participating in the integrated pest management action plans. 

How Pest Problems Are Identified

We moniter pest levels and action thresholds. We do not use toxic chemical pesticides. We only use non toxic, bee and pollinator friendly pest control methods and mechanical management strategies.

Practices Used to Prevent or Control Pests

Trapping of nuisance hives or hive pests in managed colonies. Physical removal of hives and hive pests, cultural practices such as best management practices, mechanical control, ecological controls, public education and outreach programs. Promote and design habitat restoration and pollinator conservation programs in the backyard, county, state, and national levels. Proper bee yard sanitation practices.

Yes, nematodes for small hive beetle control. 

Borates Used?

Yes, borax for small hive beetle control.

Synthetic Chemicals Used?

No.

Top Ten Pesticides Used/Sold/Recommended

No toxic chemical pesticides.

Soapy water is kept on hand during bee removals in the event of a safety issue that requires immediate attention to myself, my clients, or unknown person or animal somewhere outside of visiual range of the bee removal. 

Borax and diatomaceous earth.

Borax or diatomaceous earth ground dusting for small hive beetles, as requested by individual clients.
