Plantscapes, Inc is a design-build-maintenance company based in Fairfield since 1980. We specialize in landscapes that respect the relationships between living things and their environments. Plantscapes, Inc. provides true organic land care and will soon be accredited by the Northeast Organic Farming Association of CT (NOFA) as Accredited Organic Land Care Professionals. NOFA is the same organization that certifies organic food. Michael Nadeau, one of the principals of Plantscapes, Inc. is a member of the Organic Land Care Committee of CT-NOFA that has recently created and published the first Standards for Organic Lawn Care, Practices for Design and Maintenance of Ecological Landscapes. Michael is also a frequent lecturer on organic topics.

Definition of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

A method of scouting and monitoring to detect problems at their inception, enabling the land care professional to correct the problem when it is small and easier to control.

Visual identification.

Practices Used to Prevent or Control Pests

Traps, scouting, resistant varieties, removal of plants that are chronically infested.

Biological Controls Used?

Canola oil, garlic oil, sulfer, neem, beneficial organisms (lacewings, soldier bugs), attract beneficial organisms with plants and pheromones.

Borates Used?

Tick repellent, which dries them out.

Synthetic Chemicals Used?

Only during transition from chemical to organic maintenance, and only when absolutely necessary. The client signs a consent form.
