  • Carbaryl Interim Reregistration (IRED) available. Carbaryl, a N-methyl carbamate insecticide, is used on agricultural crops, sod, and for residential use on pets and in homes and gardens, and by USDA for grasshopper control. Because the carbamate pesticides share a common mechanism of toxicity, the Agency will evaluate the cumulative risk posed by this group before making final reregistration eligibility decisions on the individual registrations of carbaryl. See Beyond Pesticides comments, and with NRDC. Docket ID# OPP-2003-0376. (closes 12/27/04)
  • Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals: Implementation Planning Issues for the Office of Pesticide Programs. EPA White Paper open for public comment. See GHS website. Docket# OPP-2004-0205. See Beyond Pesticides comments. (close date 12/03/04)

  • Emergency Exemptions – Proposal to streamline. EPA is proposing several revisions to its regulations governing that allow unregistered uses of pesticides to address emergency pest conditions for a limited time. Changes would allow applicants for certain repeat exemptions a simple way to re-certify that the emergency conditions that initially qualified for an exemption continue to exist in the second and third years and would re-define significant economic loss and adjust the data requirements for documenting the loss.
