Northshore Celebrates Earth Day with Big Festival

The second annual Earth Day Northshore Celebration, sponsored by Coastal Waste Services, STARC and the City of Slidell, will be taking place on Saturday, April 24, 2004 in Heritage Park in Slidell.

“Due to last year’s outstanding success, we’re expanding many of our features this year,” states Earth Day Coordinator Bondilyn Jolly, “Not only will there be plenty of environmental booths and activities, we’re also featuring hands-on education workshops throughout the afternoon, an arts and crafts center for children, a family scavenger hunt, entertainment stage, prize drawings and free goodie bags to the first 500 children!”

This year’s festivities will also tie in with a city-wide cleanup and recycling effort in partnership with Coastal Waste, STARC and the City of Slidell’s Beautification Committee. The city-wide cleanup program will be used to create awareness within the residential and business community, as well as local schools, concerning the City of Slidell’s kickoff of the “Clean Cities Project”; a program aimed at receiving national recognition for making vast strides in city-wide cleanup and beautification efforts.

There is still plenty of space available for participation in Earth Day Northshore 2004. Workshop leaders are still needed for a few of the presentation time slots and spots are available for businesses or organizations wishing to participate by displaying an environmentally-themed, family-friendly booth. Sponsorship levels are also still available for the event.
