What
is your definition of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)? |
Using
principles and practices such as inspections, identifications, monitoring,
caulking and sealing, and other non-toxic alternatives. |
Is pest management performed on a specific schedule? |
Yes.
It varies depending on the scope of the work. Precisely placing insect
monitors which trap a portion of the pest population is the key to
informing the IPM technician of areas needing attention. This helps
minimize the amount of pesticides applied by focusing treatments into
specific harborages with active signs of infestation. |
How are pest problems identified? |
Pests
are identified by our highly trained staff and our monitoring 24 hours/7
days a week with Western monitors. |
What practices
do you use to prevent and/or control pests? |
Inspections,
idenitifications, monitoring, caulking and sealing, traps, insect
growth regulators, insect electrocutors, and vacuums. |
Do you
use biological controls? |
Pheromone
traps for managing insects. |
Yes,
in many situations we will caulk the crack and treat with boric acid. |
Do you
use synthetic chemicals? |
In
an IPM program, we use liquid residual pesticides only when active
pest infestations are found as opposed to a routine application program.
We apply pesticides that are carefully chosen based on their general
effectiveness on the pests. Our technicians apply pesticides only
in the precise area of infestation. We employ the crack and crevice
method of treatment that places the pesticide directly into the pest
harborage and significantly reduces the potential for humans to contact
the pesticides. |
What
are the top 10 pesticides you use/sell/recommend? |
Only
those pesticides on the approved list will be used. Many times we
will caulk the crack and treat in a void with an inorganic dust such
as boric acid or silica gel; Insect Growth Regulators (hydroprene);
liquid residual pesticides. |
If pesticides are used, how much are used per year of each? |
Does
your company perform habitat modification? |
Yes.
Caulking and sealing and, if necessary, major repairs contributing
to pest problems will be discussed with the IPM coordinator for long-term
IPM care in the facility; recommendations on contributing conditions
to reduce future pesticide use. |
Do you
use any physical or mechanical controls? |
mechanical
traps; vacuums; insect elecrtocutors. |
What
type of fertilizers do you use/sell/recommend? |
What
do you usually use/sell/recommend for addressing: |
termites |
caulk
and seal; baits; insect growth regulators; vacuums |
cockroaches |
We
will routinely caulk cockroach harborages instead of constantly treating
them; baits; insect growth regulators; vacuums |
fleas |

ants |
