The Plant Place is totally organic garden center and landscape company, offering professional organic horticultural services. We are accredited by NOFA as an accredited organic land care professional and are a member of the Ecological Landscape Association (ELA). We use all natural and organic solutions.

What is your definition of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)?

Scouting and monitoring to detect problems at their inception, we practice ecological pest management, we constantly educate our people on the behaviors of pests and diseases, their life cycles, and host plants so we can correct the problem when it is small and easier to correct and avoid.

Is pest management performed on a specific schedule?

Yes, during periods of high insect and disease pressure, we scout, look for signs of insects and disease, set traps or indicator cards to monitor populations. Populations are monitored with site visits on a bi-weekly schedule, then we respond with BMP of organic approach to control.

How are pest problems identified?

Visual identification, monitoring is a part of our service, sticky and pheremone traps, we use Temperature Degree Days (TDD) to monitor.

What practices do you use to prevent and/or control pests?

Prevention, plant disease and insect resistant varieties, good cultural practices, natural and biological practices.

Do you use biological controls?

Yes: Bt, nematodes, neem oil, compost tea, soil mycorhizae.

Do you use borates?

Tick repellist.

Do you use synthetic chemicals?

No

What are the top 10 pesticides you use/sell/recommend?

Dormant oil, corn gluten, soaps, Burnout and Scythe (organic herbicides), pyrethrum (organic), Bt, diotamaceous earth, Dipel.

Does your company perform habitat modification?

Yes, pruning to increase sunlight and air movement to control disease, plant insectary strips to attract beneficial insects.

FerTrell organic fertilizers/compost, Schafer Liquid Fish, whatever the soil test tells us is needed.
