Landscapes corporation provides landscape maintenance, installation,
and some design service. We emphasize using environmentally friendly
landscaping principles. |
|
What is
your definition of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)? |
|
To minimize the
use of pesticides and instead use methods that pose a lower risk to
public and environmental health. Monitoring pests regularly and determining
what kind of treatment to use. Educate clients to plant the right
plant in the right place, and to go native. |
|
Is pest
management performed on a specific schedule? |
|
Monitoring for
pests is performed during weekly maintenance visits. If there is a
pest "problem" then we determine the best treatment without
the use of pesticides. |
|
How
are pest problems identified? |
|
Our employees
are knowledgeable in the area of pest identification. Pest problems
are monitored very carefully before, during, and after implementing
controls. We look for increases and decreases and changes in the pest
population. |
|
What practices
do you use to prevent and/or control pests? |
|
Manually
remove pests by hand or rag. We also use gopher wire. Also by proper
plant maintenance. Plant the right kind of plant in the right place. |
|
Do you
use biological controls? |
|
For weed
control we might plant a ground cover which supresses the weeds. |
|
We do not control
pests with borates. We do clean plants as needed with insecticidal
soaps. |
|
Do you
use synthetic chemicals? |
|
What are
the top 10 pesticides you use/sell/recommend? |
|
None. We
outsource for pest control if truly needed. |
|
If pesticides are used, how much are used per year of each? |
|
Does your
company perform habitat modification? |
|
We do habitat
modification by planting native plants that attract native wildlife.
We avoid pruning during nesting times. We also build ponds and provide
water to wildlife. |
|
Do you
use any physical or mechanical controls? |
|
We do a lot of
manual weeding as well as manually removing pests from plants, such
as mealybugs. |
|
What type
of fertilizers do you use/sell/recommend? |
|
Maxsea.
Organic compounds. We read soil tests and follow recommendations. |

How do
you evaluate effectiveness of your pest management |
|
I believe
the effectiveness of our pest management system is very good. We have
occasional pest problems but are almost always able to control them
without the use of pesticides. |
|
We do not
give out customer information, but we are signing up to be a green
business with Co-op Amrerica and other like organizations. |
