What is your definition of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)?

Monitoring pests on a regular schedule (written plan) and implementing least-toxic remedies. The focus is on prevention through appropriate cultural practices I.e. appropriate plants, locations, water, nutrients, mulching and pruning.

 

Is pest management performed on a specific schedule?

Weekly or bi-weekly monitoring of all plants for pests.

How are pest problems identified?

Pests are identified by experienced personnel and reference material (books and websites if needed, or agriculture department). Pest populations are monitored before and after controls through visual inspection and record keeping.

What practices do you use to prevent and/or control pests?

Remove poor performing plants and trees; design landscapes that fit the soil and climate. All organic and non-toxic methods.

 

Do you use biological controls?

Yes, green lacewings innoculated throughout the year.

 

Do you use borates?

N/A

Do you use synthetic chemicals?

No.

What are the top 10 pesticides you use/sell/recommend?

None used except Iron phosphate for snails and slugs (Brand name is Sluggo).

1 pound Iron phosphate (Sluggo)

No.

Do you use any physical or mechanical controls?

Yes, hand weed removal.

What type of fertilizers do you use/sell/recommend?

Fish emulsion, which acts as gopher control only. We do not maintain lawns (mowing, blowing, etc). We recommend people plant native grass and native plant meadows.

dandelions enjoy the flowers. Alternatively, we use cardboard, remove the lawn and use festua rubra (red fescue) which naturally controls weeds.

How do you evaluate effectiveness of your pest management

We evaluate through weekly and bi-weekly monitoring, photo shots before contract, during and after, customer satisfaction, and health of plants using zero pesticides.
