What is your definition of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)?

IPM is a seven step process that is defined by circumstances and one of many tools we use. The steps include: 1. Identification 2. Monitoring 3. Knowing economic and aesthetic injury threshholds 4. Knowing correct treatments 5. Knowing correct time 6. Record keeping 7. Evaluation


Is pest management performed on a specific schedule?

No - controls are based on Growing Degree Days and updates from Extension Services.

How are pest problems identified?

Continuous monitoring by Gardens Are... and property owners. Traps are used if warranted. Specimens are submitted to university laboratories for verification.

What practices do you use to prevent and/or control pests?

Habitat modification, appropriate plant selection for the site, proper sanitation, and horticultural practices.

Entomopathic nematodes, Bt, compost

What are the top 10 pesticides you use/sell/recommend?

None at this time. We are looking into compost teas and various minerals allowed by the National Organic Program.

Yes - pruning, removals, and transplanting.

Do you use any physical or mechanical controls?

Yes - we remove wasp nests when there is a danger to residents. Licensed Problem Animal Control agents are hired if other forms of wildlife need to be managed.

We custom blend fertilizers, minerals and soil amendments according to soil test results.
