What is your definition of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)?

IPM emphasizes the minimal usage of pesticide and the maximum employment of less toxic alternatives. IPM includes exclusion, sanitation reports, education of staff (written and verbal) use of monitors and biological controls and pesticides are used only when absolutely necessary.

Is pest management performed on a specific schedule?

Most customers are on a yearly contract with (X) number of visits per month. Accounts run on a reporting system, supplemented by quality control inspections which are designed to seek out pests and the causes for their presence.

How are pest problems identified?

Through staff reporting, quality control inspections and the use of various types of monitoring traps.

What practices do you use to prevent and/or control pests?

Exclusion, sanitation and storage suggestions, pheromone traps, rodent traps, baits, insect growth regulators, sterilants, jar traps, netting and some pesticides.

Do you use biological controls?

Very few, if any, biological controls are appropriate for our structural pest control.

Do you use borates?

Yes. In both dust and bait form.

Do you use synthetic chemicals?

Pyrethroids, Baygon (methylcarbamate), Sevin Granular (carbaryl), Talon (brodifacoum), Maxforce (fipronil), Gentrol (hydroprene), Drione (pyrethrin), and Suspend (deltamethrin).

What are the top 10 pesticides you use/sell/recommend?

1)Boric acid 2)Drione 3)Gentrol 4)various cockroache, ant and rodent baits.

If pesticides are used, how much are used per year of each?

Difficult to determine.

Does your company perform habitat modification?

We do give suggestions to the clients to do so.

Do you use any physical or mechanical controls?

We use netting, steel wool, copper wool and give structural suggestions to clients including caulking, weather stripping of doors, horticultural practices around the foundation, bioenzymes for drains, etc.

What type of fertilizers do you use/sell/recommend?

This is not our area of expertise.

What do you usually use/sell/recommend for addressing:

termites We recommend companies that use borates and baits.

cockroaches Pheromone traps, borates, fipronil.

fleas Finding and eliminating the source (other than pets), vacuuming and cleaning

carpenter ants Baits and locating wet wood problems.

fire ants Not a problem.

ants (indoor) Baits (both borates and fipronil).

crabgrass Did Not Respond (DNR)

dandelions DNR

other Fruit flies-traps and sanitation. Yellow jackets-jar traps.

How do you evaluate effectiveness of your pest management

Our effectivenss is based on how well we reduce pest populations, on cooperation from our clients, on educating clients in the dangers of pesticides and sometimes on learning a little tolerance in lieu of pesticides.
