We are a full
service IPM specializing in school IPM. Our company has a philosophy
of using pesticides as a last resort. We offer a complete IPM program
covering all pests including head lice. Head lice are managed using
Lice B Gone, an enzyme based shampoo from Safe Effective Alternatives.
We incorporate all available non-toxic alternatives, and certain least
toxic alternatives if they meet our criteria of safety. We feel that
it is very important that our clients understand that our solutions
are not going to be a bigger problem than the pest they called us
for. Currently, we service Ohio and Michigan. Our methods and products
are being used in Pennsylvania and New York. |
|
What
is your definition of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)? |
|
IPM is simply
a tool chest with an assortment of specialized tools for any given
pest. Some pests will be controlled using only one tool, while others
will require the integration of several tools. We believe that using
pesticides should be the last step of a good IPM program. IPM should
not mean "Include Pesticides Monthly," but rather it should
mean "Include Pesticides MAYBE." Our IPM involves a change
in philosophy from see a bug, spray a bug to see a bug, manage a bug. |
|
Is pest management performed on a specific schedule? |
|
No, it is our
opinion that pest management in IPM is not scheduled. In IPM the only
thing scheduled is maintenance, sanitation and monitoring. We do not
have a monthly spray schedule. |
|
How
are pest problems identified? |
|
Problems are
identified by our educated clients and our staff of certified applicators.
We have daily monitoring of pest problems because we educate our clients
to do this. Sightings or reported problems are kept in a log which
is part of our IPM manual for each building we service. |
|
What practices
do you use to prevent and/or control pests? |
|
We have learned
that the incorporation of an enzyme into our accounts has helped to
prevent and control many pest problems due to its cleaning mechanism.
This cleaning mechanism digests many of the protein based substances
associated with pest problems. We know that inspection is a crucial
step in the prevention of pest problems our buildings are inspected
and recommendations made to correct potential pest problems (mechanical,
structural, sanitation, etc). |
|
Do you
use biological controls? |
|
Yes, borates are
our pesticide of choice, should we need one. We would use Niban, NiBor,
Blue Diamond, Drax, Borid, TimBor, Bora-Care, etc. Fortunately, in
our schools, but we have not had to use them very often. |
|
Do you
use synthetic chemicals? |
|
The only synthetic
chemical that we have used in our landscape services is Round Up (glyphosate).
We have tried many alternative methods, but have not found a less
toxic substitute for it. We are open to suggestions. |
|
What
are the top 10 pesticides you use/sell/recommend? |
|
Victor Poison
Free (mint oil), Bio-Blast (soil fungus) and the following borate
products: Dr. Moss, NiBan, Blue Diamond, Drax, Borid, TimBor, Bora-Care,
etc. |
|
If pesticides are used, how much are used per year of each? |
|
We have not had
to use any synthetic pesticides. We would use a bait formulation if
possible. We would use borate based products according to its labeled
uses. Six applications of borate products in 24 districts under our
IPM program. |
|
Does
your company perform habitat modification? |
|
One of the biggest
steps in IPM. For a roach problem - eliminate water sources (leaking
pipes, slow moving drain, etc.), eliminate food source (greasy oven
cleaned with Super C professional), eliminate harborage (card board
boxes removed), |
|
Do you
use any physical or mechanical controls? |
|
Yes, we use numerous
pest control devices. Bug Banishers and EPA registered and University
of Florida tested negative ion device. Victor Tin Cats, Pest Patrol
from World Environmental Technology, Bird X-peller, Terror Eyes, etc |
|
What
type of fertilizers do you use/sell/recommend? |
|
We sell a 100%
organic based fertilizer (composted chicken manure) called Natures
Supreme 2-5-3 and 50% organic based fertilizer called Nutri-Plus 10-3-4.
We use gypsum and humates. We base any fertilizer program on soil
testing. |
