Ecological
landscape design and maintenance use beneficial insects, soil microbes,
soil nutrition and appropriate plants to create balanced landscapes
that are also beautiful. We use ecosystem engineers and managers who
are experienced in residential, commercial & indoor gardens, exotics
& natives, personal sanctuaries, meditation gardens and wildlife
gardens. |
|
What
is your definition of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)? |
|
An excuse to
use pesticides. It is NOT ORGANIC or (applied ecology) natural. I
have found several cases of the public being misled through an IPM
program that was supposed to reduce pesticides, but actually did not.
We practice ecological pest management (EPM), which eliminates 100%
of toxic chemical use. |
|
Is pest management performed on a specific schedule? |
|
Beneficial insect
releases for aphids, mites & gypsy moths in the spring. Nematodes
when necessary. Bird houses are installed before spring. Most infestations
are controlled after a monitor has identified a problem. |
|
How
are pest problems identified? |
|
By an educated
field monitor or samples taken for ID, tick dragging to identify host
and treating rodent vectors with Daminex (pyrethrum treated cotton
for mouse holes to kill deer ticks). |
|
What practices
do you use to prevent and/or control pests? |
|
Find the source
of the pest and eliminate it at the source using knowledge of the
pest to find weak links in its life cycle for the best control. We
use soil innoculants, birdhouse & habitat development, proper
plant placement and insect releases. |
|
Do you
use biological controls? |
|
As an ant bait
and wood wash for boring beetles. |
|
Do you
use synthetic chemicals? |
|
What
are the top 10 pesticides you use/sell/recommend? |
|
We recommend
that no pesticides be used. |
|
If pesticides are used, how much are used per year of each? |
|
Does
your company perform habitat modification? |
|
Water Ecosystems
help diversify the habitat of suburban ecosystems. Berry producing
and bramble bushes encourage birds. Pruning trees to increase ant
flow to control mosquitoes and apple rust. |
|
Do you
use any physical or mechanical controls? |
|
We physically
weed. Foliar washes to clean infested plants of mites and scales and
aphids using cosmetic grade soap. We also apply a compost topdressing
to turf to bury dormant annual weed seeds. |
|
What
type of fertilizers do you use/sell/recommend? |
|
Organic with
microbes and crushed rock. We also use and recommend Organica, Plant
Health Care, Espoma, Greensand, Rock phosphorous, Mother Earth Organics,
Bradfeild, North Country Organics. |
|
What
do you usually use/sell/recommend for addressing: |
|
fleas |
Nematodes outdoors.
Nightlight with sticky trap for indoors. |
|
fire ants |
Did Not
Respond (DNR) |
|
crabgrass |
Topdress and
seed. |
|
dandelions |
Mow, pull or
spot treat. |
other
|
Gypsy moths
- parasitic wasp; Spidermites - praying mantis egg case. |
|
How do
you evaluate effectiveness of your pest management |
|
By the health
and appearance of the plants. |
|
