What is your definition of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)?

Monitoring for conditions favorable to pests and then looking for those pests and only treating chemically if pests are apparent in damaging levels.

 

Is pest management performed on a specific schedule?

Anti-dessicant spray in late fall/winter on shrubs prone to winter burn. Fertilization to help prevent problems.

How are pest problems identified?

Through testing and physical inspection.

What practices do you use to prevent and/or control pests?

CGM, proper cultural practices, proper water management, use of resistant plants, fertilization.

 

Do you use biological controls?

Nematodes, neem, mint oil, predatory insect releases, eudophite

 

Do you use borates?

To treat for termites and as a precaution.

Do you use synthetic chemicals?

Roundup, dimension, Gallery, Q4 (synthetic chemicals are only used for customers that request them, and even in that case are used sparingly).

What are the top 10 pesticides you use/sell/recommend?

Scythe, Burnout, Transfilm, diatomaceous earth, sulfur.

If pesticides are used, how much are used per year of each?

Less than one gallon of concentrated herbicide per year, spot sprayed.

Does your company perform habitat modification?

Ground cover to keep weeds out, thicken turf stand to prevent weeds.

Do you use any physical or mechanical controls?

Pulling weeds, cardboard under mulch, aeration and seeding.

What type of fertilizers do you use/sell/recommend?

OMRI listed organic fertilizers, Nutrients Plus 4-4-2, Fortrel products, Bolster, kelp, Maxicrop liquid fish, lime and other soil ammendments, worm casting, compost tea.
