Never have I been to Tahoe but would imagine when it comes to regards of human consumption the lake should be left at its natural state, regardless of the color of water. If the clams and culprit plants pose no harm to people why would we poison ourselves..

The article quotes Carl Young, “I think honestly this is coming down to human health issues. They can say all they want that [pesticides] won’t harm people, but it’s poison and it can kill things.” I disagree. While there may be impacts on human health, the impacts on aquatic ecosystems are much greater. See, for example, Carol Ann Woody, 2007. Copper Effects on Freshwater Food Chains and Salmon: A review, Fisheries Research and Consulting at http://www.fish4thefuture.com/pdfs/Woody_Copper_Effects_to_Fish%20-%20FINAL2007.pdf for copper sulfate and Gonzalo Luis Pérez, María Solange Vera and Leandro Andrés Miranda, Effects of Herbicide Glyphosate and
Glyphosate-Based Formulations on
Aquatic Ecosystems, http://www.intechopen.com/source/pdfs/12592/InTech-Effects_of_herbicide_glyphosate_and_glyphosate_based_formulations_on_aquatic_ecosystems.pdf for glyphosate.
