Michelle..I truly wish the best for you.
I have often wondered what florist workers and those that handle fruit and vegetables are exposed to..especially those items imported where the amount and type of pesticide(s) are not even regulated. This is so horrible for the unsuspecting worker...I wish you well.
This isnt a well publicized issue thanks for bringing it to the light. Please spread the word. I thank you for alerting me as well - just another great reason to support organic produce and flowers, etc. right? God bless -

This study is consistent with the findings of a study I published in Breast Cancer Research and Treament, 90:55-64 in May 2005.

In this studies, levels of the most potent carcinogen of the chlordane mixture, heptachlor epoxide, was significantly elevated in the breast tissue of breast cancer patients as compared to matched controls.

See website for infornation to test your home. www.toxfree.net.

Its nice to see that blood samples were taken and not just
reliance on self reporting which traditionally opens studies up to
recall bias (ie patients with medical condition think more about theur
exposure than do controls). btw here is a good news story- the decline
in the breast cancer rate among postmenopausal women is directly linked
to the drop in hormone replacement therapy use, according to a report
published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Have a look at

http://www.insidermedicine.ca/archives/Reduced_Hormone_Therapy_Use_Linked_to_Breast_Cancer_Reduction_1001.aspx.

You will need flash or quicktime to watch.

I worked at a wholesale florist for 12 years.I packed flowers which I am sure were loaded with pesticides and insecticides. Many flwers were from Bogata. We were not allowed breaks and sometimes ate while working(no gloves or safety lessons).I have had breast cancer twice. What are the chances that the cancer was caused by the job?
